Festival Announcement: Forbidden Fruit @ Kilmainham, June 1st & 2nd 2013

Forbidden Fruit returns to The Royal Hospital Kilmainham this June bank holiday weekend – and, back to a two day event after last year’s three day extravaganza, the initial lineup has just been announced. There has been somewhat of a negative reaction to it – perhaps more of a Primavera Sound crossover was expected – but for me personally, I think the bookers done very well considering the onslaught of big-budget rival festival Longitude and I’m very much looking forward to it. The convenience of the city centre location is a massive draw for me – nowt like waking up in your own bed, and walking to a festival site!

Truth be told the headliners of Kasabian and Primal Scream do absolutely NOTHING for me, but that was the same with last year’s Forbidden Fruit festival too – headliners Leftfield, Wilco and New Order did not factor into my schedule for the weekend. It’s when I got to the smaller print of the 2013 menu that I really got excited – Neon Neon, Chic, Austra, Daughter, IAMWHOIAM, Four Tet, Crystal Castles, James Blake, Everything Everything, and my two absolute FAVOURITE live Irish acts Le Galaxie and Fight Like Apes. Plus, many more to be announced!

No word on the mooted nationwide expansion of the festival to incorporte Cork and Galway, as announced in the aftermath of last year’s event.

Tickets for this year’s Forbidden Fruit go onsale tomorrow morning at 9AM. Early bird prices are available for a limited time – one day ticket for €44.50, two day ticket  for €79.50. Once they’ve bene snapped up the general prices are €54.50 for a one day ticket and  €99.50 for a two day ticket.
