The Perfect BBQ Playlist…

Irish summers don’t always behave as they’re supposed to, but you really have to admire our national attitude when the sun DOES come out to play – everything is dropped in favour of finding a nice spot to sprawl out and catch some rays. Of course the grandest tradition of the fleeting Irish summer remains a good ol’ fashioned BBQ – the sun is here, grab some burgers n’ beverages n’ buddies, hit the back garden, and get cookin’! But what’s a barbecue party without some quality tunes in the background?

It’s always good to strike a balance between old and new, chilled and crazy – but above all else, songs that scream ‘fun in the sun’. Get the party started with Dizzee Rascal’s ultimate summer anthem, and the blissful electronic psych-pop beats of Caribou. The combo of The Go! Team & Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino is a sure-fire winner; and of course it’s always good to have some breaking Irish music in the mix – ‘Sunset Song’, the forthcoming debut single from We Are Losers, quite simply sounds like summer. Some sunny sounds of the sixties are essential, and who better than The Kinks and Creedence Clearwater Revival to provide such a service. Having trouble deciding between Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, The Beatles and ELO? Well, why not have ‘em all in one with the feel-good sound of The Travelling Wilburys! The finest 80s pop courtesy of Prince and Talking Heads will always be crowd-pleasers; and last but not least the ska-reggae sound of Sublime is the perfect way to round off a sunny evening outdoors. Enjoy!
